From hourly wage to what lands in your bank
Many New Zealanders are paid by the hour, but tax is worked out on your total income. This calculator does the conversion for you: enter your rate and hours, and it shows your real take-home pay after every deduction.
Common questions
How do you turn an hourly rate into take-home pay?
We multiply your hourly rate by the hours you work each week and by 52 weeks to get your annual gross pay, then deduct PAYE income tax, the ACC earners’ levy, and any KiwiSaver or student loan. The result is shown per week, fortnight, month and year.
What if my hours change each week?
Use your average weekly hours for the best estimate. If your hours vary a lot, try a few different values to see the range of take-home pay.
